À la Une
In view of the deteriorating humanitarian situation and, in particular, the growing needs to tackle acute malnutrition in the country, Action against Hunger will continues to establish programs in Hodeida and Hajjah governorates.
Since 2008, Yemen has been spread across a political and economic crisis and shows now a high prevalence of undernutrition and food insecurity. After some exploratory missions in 2009 and 2010, Action against Hunger opened a mission in 2012 in Hodeida and Hajjah governorates. But poverty combined with conflict, drought, refugees flows and rising food prices, has aggravated an already deep humanitarian crisis during these last few years.
Face with the alarming situation, Action against Hunger decided to maintain its commitment to helping alleviate Yemen’s acute humanitarian needs. Action against Hunger will strengthen and broaden the scope and the impact of its interventions by developing a multi-sectorial program – nutrition, water, sanitation and food security – in order to treat and prevent the acute malnutrition. Thanks to its program ECHO, the European Commission will continue to support Action against Hunger work to curb the deterioration of the already critical situation in the poorest Arab country.
