ENHANCING CLIMATE RESILIENCE, AND FOOD & NUTRITION SECURITY

More severe and frequent climate-related shocks, changing seasons and gradual changes increase the overall risk of hunger and under-nutrition through various causal pathways that relate to livelihoods; food security; maternal and child care and feeding practices; and water, sanitation and health. ACF responds to climate change by enhancing the resilience of the most vulnerable populations and communities in face of climate-related shocks and stresses.

ACF’s climate resilience approach bridges elements from disaster risk management and climate change adaptation. It includes a set of interconnected and complementary approaches, respectively:

(i) Better understanding climate-related challenges on hunger and under-nutrition;

(ii) Strengthening food and nutrition security surveillance and early warning systems;

(iii ) Linking early warnings to early response mechanisms;

(iv) Enhancing preparedness in face of climate-related shocks and seasonal hardships;

(v) Managing climate-related risks and enhancing people and community resilience;

(vi) Conducting advocacy and shaping policies; and (vii) Reducing carbon footprints.
