Our intervention in Jordan

The devastating socio-economic consequences of the COVID-19 pandemic have made vulnerable refugees and host communities even more vulnerable. At a time when the climate crisis is increasing the risks of water stress and drought, the government is struggling to provide the necessary services and infrastructures to respond to mental health, employment, subsistence and WASH access needs.

In 2021, to strengthen vulnerable populations’ autonomy, Action contre la Faim offered professional and entrepreneurial training, as well as income-generating activities. The Jordan mission also helped to boost economic resilience to water stress and soil degradation through sustainable agricultural practices, such as composting.

In order to support populations affected by mental health issues, the mission contributed towards reinforcing public employees’ capabilities with the MhGAP programme. It collaborated with local entities in order to identify vulnerable people and offer them therapeutic support.

Action contre la Faim helped to connect vulnerable households to public water supply networks. The mission also contributed towards the adoption of best hygiene practices and sustainable water management techniques. To strengthen regional entities’ capacities, ACF cooperated with the German Jordanian University to launch the master’s course in ‘Water, Sanitation and Hygiene’ in Madaba.
