IN BANGLADESH, 31% OF CHILDREN UNDER FIVE SUFFER FROM STUNTED GROWTH, WHILE 24% OF WOMEN AGED BETWEEN 15 AND 49 ARE UNDERWEIGHT, INCREASING THE RISK OF MATERNAL AND INFANT MORTALITY.
In Bangladesh, the causes of malnutrition are exacerbated by natural disasters and climate change, which disrupt food systems and their security.
In Rohingya refugee camps in 2022, ACF distributed food supplements to 50,525 women and children. A solid waste management process was also piloted, converting organic waste into fertilizer (distributed to beneficiaries).
ACF advocated for the nutritional well-being of children under five, and trained 71 civil society organizations and 28 local entrepreneurs to ensure easy access to affordable nutritional and WASH products, particularly in the event of natural disasters. The STEP project, funded by ECHO, continued to benefit communities in the southwest. A new resilient agricultural production model and a cyclone early warning protocol have been put in place to ensure effective governance in disaster risk management.
With the help of SIDA emergency funds, ACF was able to respond to the Sylhet flash flood and deliver multi-sectoral interventions to 9,500 people.

Muk fled fighting in his village, with his mother, siblings and grandparents. Now, they live in Balukhali refugee camp. At an Action Against Hunger food distribution, Muk collected bags of biryani. Action Against Hunger have given the family food even day since they arrived in the camp one week ago, and provided the first meal they ate after they crossed the border.
Muk said:
“I fled with my mother. My father was killed by the military, they cut his throat.
“I already had some food from [Action Against Hunger] this morning. So I am not hungry anymore. We didn’t have anything to eat when we were walking here. But I feel better now.
“I couldn't bring anything from home. I had to leave everything behind. My home was burned down.”
