Press release
In the early hours of this morning, as many families in Gaza were preparing for their first meal before fasting until sunset for Ramadan, a new escalation of air strikes killed hundreds of people in a matter of hours.
Action Against Hunger urgently calls, more than ever, for an immediate and permanent ceasefire, unimpeded humanitarian access, the release of hostages and the protection of civilians and humanitarian workers. It is never too late to prevent further loss of life.
“We have decided to restrict movement in Gaza for the time being to ensure the safety of our staff and the people we are helping. Food, water and fuel have not entered Gaza for more than two weeks. Humanitarian access and aid should never be a bargaining chip in a war,” said Natalia Anguera Ruiz, Action Against Hunger’s Middle East operations manager.
The lives of more than two million Palestinians are in grave danger. The near-total destruction of all civilian infrastructure, including hospitals, homes, schools, markets and other infrastructure essential to the survival of the civilian population, has forced them to rely solely on humanitarian aid. The bombardments and the resulting displacements only increase the risk of famine in the Gaza Strip.
