To highlight the precarious situation in which climate change is plunging disadvantaged populations, Action Against Hunger is participating in the Photoclimat Biennial from September 18 to October 17 in Paris.

For the third consecutive year, Action Against Hunger is participating in the Photoclimat Biennial, an artistic and socially conscious event that transforms the Place de la Concorde into an open-air gallery.

The photography biennial, which is free and open to all, highlights environmental and societal issues through the eyes of photographers and artists from around the world.

This year, Action Against Hunger is presenting the work of Bangladeshi photojournalist Fabeha Monir, with a poignant series entitled “Bangladesh: Cultivating the Future in the Face of Climate Change.” Through her photographs, she bears witness to the daily struggle of Bangladeshi communities facing increasingly frequent and violent natural disasters: floods, cyclones, soil salinization, and river erosion.

Fabeha Monir is a Bangladeshi visual journalist based in Dhaka, Bangladesh. She is a regular contributor to The New York Times, Bloomberg News, The Wall Street Journal, and The Washington Post. Her film “The Taste of Honey” won the award for best documentary at the Terni Film Festival in Italy. Fabeha is a Shifting Democracy Fellow at the Global Press Journal.

Bangladesh, gateway to our climate future

With over 170 million inhabitants, Bangladesh is one of the countries most vulnerable to the effects of climate change. In 2022, more than 7 million people were displaced due to extreme weather events. This country is a warning to the rest of the world: what people are experiencing today, others will experience tomorrow if nothing is done.

Present in Bangladesh since 2007, Action Against Hunger is taking concrete action to strengthen communities’ resilience to climate and humanitarian crises:

An opportunity to mobilize

This exhibition reveals the tangible and real impact of climate change, as well as the solutions that exist. Action Against Hunger hopes to use the power of these images to mobilize new partners, raise public awareness, and send a strong message to policymakers:  the climate crisis is a global humanitarian crisis. Without immediate action, more than 100 million additional people worldwide could suffer from undernutrition by 2030.
