Our intervention in Pakistan
NEARLY 4.66 MILLION PEOPLE ARE ACUTELY FOOD INSECURE (IPC PHASE 3) IN APRIL 2022, CONSUMING POOR-QUALITY, UNDIVERSIFIED PRODUCE.
The floods of August 2022 have added to the country’s vulnerability, and it is also going through a major political crisis. Finally, there were 1.3 million Afghan refugees in Pakistan in June 2022.
In 2022, Action Contre la Faim supported Afghan refugees and the host population in Pakistan through continuity of health services, integrated treatment of acute malnutrition and MHPSS for children and women.
Given the vulnerability of populations to natural disasters, ACF has carried out emergency preparedness projects in these provinces, with anticipatory actions and improved early warning systems.
ACF supported populations affected by flooding. 30 million people were affected in the provinces of Sindh and Baluchistan. Funding enabled a rapid response to vulnerable households affected by the floods. ACF’s support included the distribution of cash, the provision of basic necessities, the rehabilitation of water supply systems, the construction of latrines and the setting up of mobile medical camps. In addition, the team also conducted psychological first aid training, distributed hygiene kits and provided agricultural tools.
The PINS project, financed to the tune of 30 million euros over 5 years by EUROPEAID to improve nutrition in Sindh, has been successfully completed.
