A partnership that promotes access to healthy, sustainable food for all.
The U shops and Action contre la Faim, partners since 1999, defend access to food for all, as well as the principles of sustainable food, and encourage responsible consumption.
Together, we are convinced that by acting responsibly here, consumers can help to preserve a sustainable food supply there. By using seasonal produce, encouraging short supply chains and local sourcing, and limiting the use of imported products, people in developing countries can preserve their agricultural resources and maintain their food autonomy.
With over €8 million donated since 1999 to fund Action contre la Faim projects, U shops are a major partner and player in the fight against hunger.
In 2024, 80% of the funds raised thanks to the partnership between U shops and Action contre la Faim supported Action contre la Faim’s activities in France.
Since 2019 Action contre la Faim has been contributing through its action on the ground and its technical influence, alongside its operational partners, to improving the response to the needs of the most precarious people in France, first and foremost their dignified access to healthy, sustainable and quality food.
The food and non-food needs of people in situations of food insecurity are better identified, better covered in emergencies and ultimately covered in a sustainable and autonomous way thanks to access to appropriate services.
About the U cooperative and U shops
Groupement U is a major supermarket chain with a network of independent retailers who sell national and own-brand consumer goods in outlets operating under the Hyper U, Super U, Marché U, U Express and Utile banners.
The Coopérative U Enseigne is the central listing and service centre for the U group. It provides a number of services to its retailers. In particular, it develops a marketing and communications strategy designed to promote the brand, the products sold and the services offered in U shops to the public.
The U cooperative, and Groupement U as a whole, are committed to a number of values, including the development and support of local initiatives and essential moral and civic principles such as humanitarian action.
