HOW CAN YOU BE SURE THAT THESE PEOPLE REPRESENT ACTION AGAINST HUNGER?

Our teams can be identified by the clothes they wear with the Action contre la Faim logo and a name badge. In the street, they generally consist of about ten people and are supervised by a team leader, while donor recruiters go door-to-door in pairs or threes. They are trained in the social purpose of our Association: values and principles, areas of intervention, key figures, etc.

We remain extremely vigilant about the behaviour of our donor recruiters and regularly organise ‘mystery visits’ to ensure the quality of their discourse and their compliance with ethical rules (no guilt-tripping, no aggressiveness).

You should also be aware that we are members of the Coordination Nationale du face-à-face (CNFF) with which we have actively participated in the development and adoption of a Guide to good practice in face-to-face fundraising. As a member, we have committed to respecting the standards set by this code in terms of behaviour towards citizens, rules for using public spaces and the working conditions of the teams.

ARE THESE FACE-TO-FACE TEAMS VOLUNTEERS OR PAID EMPLOYEES?

These campaigns are carried out by professionals paid by agencies that provide services to Action Against Hunger. The procedures for Action Against Hunger’s use of collection service providers are regularly monitored by the auditors of the Comité de la Charte du don en confiance (Donate with Confidence Charter Committee).

WHAT IS THE APPROACH PROPOSED BY THE FACE-À-FACE TEAMS?

Our teams raise awareness among people they meet on the street, in shopping centres and in their homes about the causes and consequences of hunger in the world. They enable those who wish to support us to become regular donors through a monthly direct debit.

To do this, our teams have people fill in a digital support form on their tablet or phone and ask for bank details found on the RIB(IBAN/BIC) in order to set up the direct debit. The ‘Databyte’ application is used for our door-to-door teams. Action contre la Faim guarantees the security of this method of collection, which presents no risk of fraud. Our teams do not collect cash or cheques.

This method of support is the most effective because it allows us to:

  • Intervene quickly in the event of an emergency crisis, thanks to the resources that are immediately available

  • Better plan our actions over time

  • To act in countries forgotten by the media but where the needs remain significant

Thanks to their work, these teams make it possible to collect funds that are absolutely necessary for the Association’s budgetary equilibrium over several years and provide the resources that we greatly need to carry out our activities to fight hunger in the world. Beyond the essential funds that they enable us to collect, these campaigns above all make it possible to raise awareness among as many people as possible. It is with all the caring and compassionate people we meet every day that we will one day win this fight.

YOUR FAQ

Is it risky to give my IBAN and BIC?

Direct debit is the safest way to make a donation to an organisation. Giving your IBAN and BIC, which can be found on your bank details, does not present any risk of fraud since it is impossible to debit an account from one individual to another. To withdraw money from a bank account, you need:

  • A national issuer number, sent to Action Against Hunger by the Banque de France,
  • A SEPA mandate signed by the holder of the account to be debited, stating the amount and the frequency of the direct debit.

Your bank details cannot therefore be used for anything other than setting up a direct debit in favour of Action Against Hunger.

Can the face-to-face teams collect cash or cheques?

The face-to-face teams cannot collect cash or cheques. They are also not allowed to accept them. If this should happen, please contact the team leader or our Donor Relations Department.

Is my town hall informed of the presence of Action Against Hunger teams?

The town halls are of course informed in advance of the period and the number of days that our team will be present in the town. They sometimes inform their constituents of this.

Are these door-to-door campaigns legal?

The door-to-door campaigns organised by Action contre la Faim are not like canvassing because there is no sale of products or services. From a regulatory point of view, they are completely legal and there is no prohibition on going into buildings, both private and public.

What are the visiting hours of our door-to-door teams?

Our teams will come to meet you from Monday to Saturday, from 9.30am to 8pm.

Why do the recruiters ring the doorbell several times?

When the residents are absent, our team will ring their doorbell three times to have a chance to talk to them.

Why do the recruiters take notes?

In order to monitor their activity and the quality of the approach, they note on a sheet the addresses and door numbers they have visited. The personal data of the residents, in particular the surname/first name, are of course not included on this document, as this would be contrary to the rules of the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).

What happens once I have signed my contract?

Once you have signed your commitment with our teams, you will receive:

  • An SMS and an email confirmation
  • A call from an ambassador in the days following your commitment to ensure that you understand your support and to answer your questions
