GREENHOUSE GAS ASSESSMENT IN THE HUMANITARIAN SECTOR

greenhouse_gas_assessment_-_technical_sheet

Greenhouse gas assessment allows organizations to evaluate their contribution to global warming and guide the reduction of their carbon footprint. Several French humanitarian NGOs have carried out such assessments since 2009, this technical sheet sum up these experiences.

Global warming already has observable effects (increase in the frequency of exceptional climatic events, reduction in agricultural yields…) that affect firstly the most fragile populations. While improving climate resilience on their programmes, humanitarian organizations also need to curb their own greenhouse gases emissions. Several tools, like the ISO 14064 or the “bilan carbone”, are used in the private and public sectors and can be adapted to NGOs.
