Testimony
The Guidimakha region has been since decades among the most vulnerable regions of the country in terms of food security. It is also becoming a region of interest for several actors (INGOs, UN agencies…) due to proximity with Senegal and Mali borders.
Action Against Hunger is the main actor in Nutrition & health sector as well as in FSL sector. Binta She recounts the difficulties of raising livestock there.
Binta and Mamoudou have six children, four girls and two boys. It is a Peul family of Azbé, Guidimakha, south of Mauritania. Their only livelihood is grazing, although due to the recurrent droughts in this area of the Sahel, their subsistence is increasingly difficult. Binta says that each year her animals must go farther and farther in search of grass, but they are so weak that many die on the way. Those who are left, he says, cannot sell them in the market either because they are too thin and their milk production becomes almost nil.
Now they are benefiting from the project of the Vaccination Park of Action Against Hunger, as well as the distribution of food for livestock.
