On 1 August 2018, the National Ministry of Public Health has declared the Ebola epidemic in the Democratic Republic of Congo, the 10th known epidemic in the country. As of 2 July 2019, 2,354 cases had been reported with a lethality rate of 67%.
In the Bunia health zone in Ituri, our teams have supported health centers to implement measures to prevent and control infections. We distributed kits; 20 to health centers and 10 to traditional doctors. These kits were accompanied by the installation of hand-washing stations in the centres as well as at the doctors’ places.
Promoting infection prevention and control measures requires also to improve water, sanitation and hygiene standards in health centres. 15 health centers have benefitted from latrines and showers construction and waste área construction.
At the same time, Action Against Hunger trained and supervised local associations, leaders and health personal to raise awareness and inform the communities.
In total, in one year, 787,570 people have benefited from our support, funded by SIDA.
