Press release
Aïcha Koraïchi was elected President of Action contre la Faim by the organisation’s Board of Directors on Thursday 22 June 2023. This election follows the General Meeting held on 17 June which saw part of the Board of Directors renewed.
Aïcha Koraïchi succeeds Dr Pierre Micheletti, who was elected Honorary President of the NGO. Vice-President and then Treasurer of Action contre la Faim Aïcha Koraïchi has been elected President of the international NGO, which has more than 8,990 employees worldwide, of which 403 in France, at an important time in its history. Humanitarian crises are multiplying around the world, and the number of people suffering from hunger has risen for the fourth year running. This number now stands at 828 million people.
"The explosion in humanitarian needs, aggravated by the multiplication of conflicts and the climate crisis, makes our fight more essential than ever."
« It is also important to reaffirm a humanitarian model that is associative, independent, transformative and collaborative, as close as possible to the needs. Always with ethics, integrity and without ever losing sight of the fact that we are working in the interests of the people with and for whom we work», says Aïcha Koraïchi.
Aïcha Koraïchi’s commitment to solidarity is not new. With over ten years of experience in the humanitarian sector, Aïcha specialises in relations with institutional donors, specifically with issues relating to compliance, accountability to affected populations and protection against sexual exploitation and abuse.
A graduate of Sciences Po Paris, she began her career at the French National Assembly as a parliamentary associate before working in an organisational consultancy where she specialised in the public sector, more specifically in health and social protection issues. These experiences cemented her commitment to public action.
She then joined Action contre la Faim, where she was head of audit and risk management. She then went on to work for British NGOs, in donor relations and accountability for affected populations, always straddling the gap between the field and headquarters. She now works as a consultant and trainer for various NGOs and is a lecturer at Sciences Po Paris.
“I am deeply attached to Action contre la Faim, the first NGO I worked for and became involved with. I have a great admiration for the work and commitment of all the members of the association (employees in the field, at head office, members and volunteers)”, explains Aïcha Koraïchi.
