Action Against Hunger calls once again for the protection of humanitarian workers in Gaza

Action Against Hunger is appalled by the killing and disappearance of humanitarian colleagues from the Palestine Red Crescent Society (PRCS). On 30 March, rescue teams recovered the bodies of eight PRCS staff, six Civil Defense workers, and one UN staff member in Rafah. Gaza is the deadliest place in the world for humanitarian workers, with over 408 aid workers killed since October 2023, according to the United Nations.

“Humanitarians dedicate themselves to supporting others, yet are not protected” said Natalia Anguera, Action Against Hunger Head of Operations for the Middle East. “Under international law, humanitarian personnel are entitled to special protections.” 

Action Against Hunger calls for an end to the siege on Gaza, which has cut off the flow of essential supplies since 2 March 2025, an immediate and permanent ceasefire, the release of all hostages, and respect for international humanitarian law to save lives and preserve humanity. Our teams continue to carry out life-saving duties in Gaza, such as the provision of safe drinking water and food, but displacement orders and military operations impact our staff and our ability to reach those in need. To save lives, our teams require assured safety, freedom of movement, and essential items such as fuel, flour, and food.
