R4NUT 2019: THE CONTINUUM OF UNDERNUTRITION PREVENTION AND TREATMENT: SHARING CURRENT SCIENTIFIC EVIDENCE

The third edition of the R4NUT conference took place in Nanterre on 20 and 21 November 2019. Launched in 2016, the R4NUT offers a unique space for the undernutrition community from humanitarian and development areas to share and discuss the latest research activities and emerging evidence on strategic topics related to undernutrition, with crosscutting perspectives from the different fields of action involved in the fight against undernutrition.

The 2019 edition focused on the continuum of undernutrition prevention and treatment. It gathered 170 participants from 68 institutions sharing innovation and best practices for the measurement, detection, diagnosis of acute malnutrition as well as prevention and treatment interventions in development and humanitarian contexts, with special emphasis on prevention.

Presented research and discussions among participants highlighted the importance of tackling undernutrition as a continuum, by integrating prevention and treatment of undernutrition, addressing jointly moderate and severe undernutrition across age groups, as well as addressing jointly women’s and children’s undernutrition. Research and scientific evidence are widely recognized as a necessary means to improve interventions and guide policies to tackle more effectively undernutrition. The R4NUT conference aims to contribute further in the next years to the growing body of evidence in the field of undernutrition.
