IVORY COAST

In Ivory coast, the results of the October 2024 Cadre Harmonisé indicate that more than 693,000 people were in the crisis to emergency phase (IPC 3+), with a deterioration in the situation projected for 2025, with more than 936,000 people (3.8% of the population) in a food insecurity situation.

In 2024, more than 65,000 refugees, mainly from Burkina Faso, were living in the north of the country, a region already suffering from food insecurity and water stress.  

In 2024, ACF continued its emergency humanitarian and shock-resilience operations in response to the needs of vulnerable communities in the northern border areas (Tchologo, Bounkani) affected by the security crisis in Burkina Faso. This dual approach involved providing food and non-food assistance and improving access to basic social services by building and rehabilitating water infrastructure and strengthening the health system, thanks mainly to funding from the Agence Française de Développement and ECHO. In addition, the YERETALI cross-border programme (Burkina Faso/Côte d’Ivoire) has continued to support the recovery of communities by strengthening their means of production through the construction of agro-pastoral dams and the distribution of agricultural kits to host households, the distribution of essential household items to certain refugees and the strengthening of their capacity to cope with shocks (climate, population displacement etc.). 

In the Tchologo region, in 2024 ACF Côte d’Ivoire continued to implement the ACT Femmes programme (funded by Global Affairs Canada), which aims to empower women and adolescent girls by increasing their access to health services, guaranteeing their rights and enabling them to participate in decision-making, with two national partners: the Association des Femmes Juristes de Côte d’Ivoire and the Amazoons du Web.  

ACF also continued its Confluences 2 programme, which is helping to improve the nutritional security of vulnerable populations, as well as the M3EAU project, co-financed by Agence Française de Développement and the Loire-Bretagne Water Agency, which has helped to improve the governance and transparent management of drinking water, while UNICEF has supported community nutrition activities and the elimination of open defecation thanks to the community-led total sanitation approach in the sub-prefectures of Kombolokoura and Dassoungboho.  

Finally, in the large urban area of the country’s capital, the mission continued to implement the PROSSAN II project in 2024, project, which is helping to improve the quality of and access to healthcare services, particularly for women and young people in disadvantaged urban and peri-urban areas of Abidjan (financed by the Agence Française de Développement), and the Merlin project, which is providing social and environmental support as part of priority sanitation and drainage work in the Abidjan district.
