Our struggle

In 2006, 854 million people* in the world still suffer from hunger.

There are multiple causes of hunger : natural catastrophes, conflicts, epidemics or poverty.

However, hunger is not a fatality!

ACF’s vocation: to act positively in the field and bear witness to people’s suffering.

Our objective is to combat this scourge on every front:

• With emergency operations, meeting the vital needs of the most vulnerable
• With post-emergency programmes to promote people’s autonomy.

Among the 854 million people suffering from hunger in the world

• 524 million live in Asia and the Pacific and 206 million in Sub-Saharan Africa
• 69 million suffer from acute malnutrition of whom 60 million are children under the age of 5
• 10 million people die of hunger each year, 6 million of whom are children under 5.
