Our intervention in Democratic Republic of Congo

Action Against Hunger’s strategic positioning in the DRC is based on responding to humanitarian emergencies, improving people’s access to basic services and combating malnutrition by tackling its underlying causes.

In 2023, Action Against Hunger responded to a number of emergencies. In the area of water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH), Action Against Hunger has built sanitation facilities in IDP sites in Lusayo and Lushangala, and distributed kits to improve hygiene conditions for IDPs.

With regard to Health Nutrition and MHPSS, Action Against Hunger has set up mobile clinics and mentoring activities for populations affected by the conflicts in Bulengo and Lushangala. These initiatives have made it possible to provide healthcare and mental and psychosocial health services to vulnerable communities.

At the same time, Action Against Hunger has continued its longer-term projects to improve community resilience by strengthening agricultural production and value chains and by reinforcing basic services in the Greater Kasai region. In 2023, Action Against Hunger also opened the Kwamouth base, in the Mai Ndombe region, to help people displaced by intercultural violence.

To provide safe and dignified access to the services offered, Action Against Hunger has invested heavily in gender mainstreaming and protection. Action contre la Faim has also stepped up its commitment to preventing sexual abuse and combating fraud and corruption in its programmes.
